Presence Over Productivity: A New Creative Metric
For years, I measured my creative worth in numbers.
How many shoots I booked.
How many photos I delivered.
How quickly I replied to emails.
Productivity was my compass — the louder, the busier, the “better.”
But somewhere along the way, I noticed something unsettling:
I was producing more, but feeling less.
My sessions felt rushed. My editing felt mechanical. My life felt like one long to-do list.
And I realized — productivity had stolen the very presence I needed to create meaningfully.
The Shift: Choosing Presence
Minimalism taught me that less is not a loss. It’s a space.
So I began applying that lesson to my creativity.
Instead of asking: How much can I get done today?
I asked: How deeply can I show up today?
Presence became my new metric. Not how many portraits I took, but how present I was with the person in front of me. Not how quickly I delivered the gallery, but how connected I felt while crafting it.
The surprising truth? The work grew richer. My clients felt more seen. And I started falling in love with photography all over again.
Why Presence Matters More Than Output
-
It creates connection. When I’m present, I notice the small details — the nervous hands, the soft laugh, the quiet strength.
-
It reduces burnout. Productivity asks for speed; presence asks for care. One drains, the other restores.
-
It makes space for emotion. Presence slows everything down, allowing feelings to rise naturally into the frame.
A New Creative Metric
Now, when I reflect on my work, I don’t ask: Did I do enough?
I ask: Was I there fully? Did I feel the moment? Did I give space for someone’s story to breathe?
Presence can’t be measured in numbers, but you can feel it — in the stillness of an image, in the authenticity of a connection, in the calm you carry when you leave a shoot.
🌱 An Invitation for You
What if you let presence be your new creative metric?
What if instead of rushing to produce, you gave yourself permission to slow down, notice, and truly feel?
Because the truth is, the art we create with presence always outshines the work we push through in productivity.
✨ Presence over productivity. That’s where creativity lives.
With calm and care,
MarÃa Lozano
